About the Project
A decade after Myanmar’s advent to independence, the army of Myanmar, also known as Burma, staged a successful military coup and established a military dictatorship. In 1962, General Ne Win, the de facto ruler of the country, published a political declaration entitled The Burmese Way to Socialism. It turned out that this was the Burmese way to poverty. As in other countries, socialism in Myanmar did not work. Almost 30 years of economic crisis led to public protests in 1988. In response to protest demonstrations, the Burmese junta leaders promised to hold elections to the parliament. The leader of the opposition was Aung San Suu Kyi, who founded the National League for Democracy in the same year. She managed to win elections and get the majority of seats in parliament, but the military junta refused to surrender power and placed Aung San Suu Kyi under house arrest where she spent about 15 years on various charges from 1988 to 2010. 2015 had to be a milestone in Myanmar’s political development since general elections to the People's Assembly were scheduled for the end of this year. Power had to be transferred to the civil government for the first time in 50 years.
On the eve of the elections, representatives of the National League for Democracy appealed to our company to create an application for iOS and Android devices in order to popularize the figure of Aung San Suu Kyi and her party.
We had an aim to create an app about the leader of the Burmese opposition, Aung San Suu Kyi, and the app about her party, the National League for Democracy. The first app had to contain information about the politician’s biography, her political principles, speeches, as well as media files and the latest news. The second app had to contain news and events relating to the National League for Democracy, as well as information about party leaders, their biography, and other useful information.
Together with the Client, we identified the following key elements of the applications:
- Calendar of activities and events from NLD Party;
- Gallery (videos and photos);
- A section with comprehensive information on the representatives of the party leadership;
- News section.
The result was worth every second spent developing the projects, because the apps we created helped Aung San Suu Kyi win the first democratic elections in the history of Myanmar, thereby establishing favorable conditions for the development of the country. Our Client thanked the Sannacode company for taking part in such an important historical event and expressed its willingness to cooperate with our team in the future.
